Responsible gambling

Betting should be entertainment you can afford. If it stops being that, stop.

ChekiOdds is an information site for adults aged 18 and over. Nothing on this site is financial advice or a guarantee of any outcome. Predictions are statistical estimates and losing runs are normal.

Warning signs

  • Betting more than you planned, or chasing losses
  • Borrowing money or using funds meant for bills to bet
  • Hiding your betting from family or friends
  • Feeling anxious, irritable or low when not betting
  • Betting to escape stress rather than for enjoyment

Tools that help

  • Set deposit, loss and session-time limits in your bookmaker account
  • Use reality checks and cooling-off periods
  • Use self-exclusion if you need a longer break
  • Never bet under the influence of alcohol or while emotional

Where to get help

Support services and their contact details change over time, so we point you to the organisations themselves rather than listing numbers we cannot continuously verify:

  • Anywhere: Gamblers Anonymous — find a local group or online meeting
  • South Africa: South African Responsible Gambling Foundation
  • Elsewhere in Africa: your national gambling regulator and your bookmaker's responsible-gambling page list the currently funded helplines
  • In an emergency: contact your local emergency number or a medical professional

If you or someone close to you is struggling, contact a local support service. Taking a break costs nothing.
